Short paragraph (about 100 words, class 5)

St Martin Island. St Martin Island is known as the only coral island of Bangladesh. It is in the Bay of Bengal, about 9 km south of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district. Local people call it Narikel Jinjira, which means coconut island, because it has many coconut trees. The island is about 7 km long. Most of the people who live there catch fish. In winter, many tourists go there by ship to see the sea, the coral rocks and the sunset. Sea turtles come to its beaches to lay eggs in winter. We should keep the island clean and protect its coral.

Longer paragraph (about 200 words, class 8 to 10)

St Martin's Island: the coral island of Bangladesh. St Martin's Island is a small island in the north-east of the Bay of Bengal and the southernmost part of Bangladesh. It lies about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar–Teknaf peninsula and about 8 km west of the coast of Myanmar, and it belongs to Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district. The island is about 7.3 km long. Its northern part is the widest, the middle is very narrow, and off its southern tip lie the small islets of Chera Dip. Local people call it Narikel Jinjira, or coconut island. It is known as the country's only coral island: small living corals grow in its shallow pools, and the oldest fossil coral found there is about 33,000 years old. About 8,500 people live on the island (2022 census), and most families depend on fishing. Sea turtles lay their eggs on its beaches in winter, and every winter tourists travel there by ship from Cox's Bazar. Because too many visitors and plastic waste harm the coral and wildlife, the government has declared the island an Ecologically Critical Area and limits how many tourists may go each day. St Martin's Island is a natural treasure, and we must all help to protect it.
