The coolest month of the season: clear skies, chilly nights, and quieter weekdays once the New Year crowd has gone.
January is the coolest month on Saint Martin's Island and one of the driest. After the New Year rush, weekdays get quieter, which makes it a good month for a slower trip to the south end near Chera Dip.
The weather
Long-term averages for Cox's Bazar give around 27 °C by day and 15 to 16 °C at night, with about 6 mm of rain in the whole month. Nights can feel cold by the sea, so bring a warm layer and socks, and pack an extra one if you're sleeping in a tent.
Clear nights
Dry air and few lights at the south end make January a good month for the night sky. After dinner, walk a little way from the lights, lie back on the sand and give your eyes a few minutes.
