A table on the sand, candles and the sound of the sea. Here's how a beach dinner works on the island, and the rules to know.
A candlelight dinner on the beach is one of the nicest things to plan on Saint Martin's Island, for a honeymoon, an anniversary or just a special night. At El Marena Eco Resort near Chera Dip we set one up for guests. Here's what to know.
The candlelight dinner is a paid extra; ask us for the price when you book. The island's rules at night change by season: last season (2025–26), lights, loud music and barbecue parties weren't allowed on the beach at night. We set up only what the season's rules allow and will tell you exactly what that is.
What it's like
We set a table on the sand near the resort with candles, and serve a dinner from our kitchen. The south of the island is quiet and dark, so the stars are bright and you hear only the waves.

What to ask before you book
- The menu: tell us what you'd like and any food needs.
- The time: sunset or after dark, depending on the season's rules.
- The tide: we'll pick a spot the water won't reach.
- The price in writing, with the date.
Keeping the beach clean
- We clear everything away afterwards: nothing is left on the sand.
- No single-use plastic on the table.
- In winter, sea turtles nest on the island's beaches, so we keep lights low.
