Saint Martin's is a small island far from the grid. Here's what to expect with power and internet, and what to bring.
One of the most common questions we get is about power and internet. Saint Martin's Island is small and off the mainland, so it's sensible to come prepared. Here's how it is at El Marena Eco Resort near Chera Dip, and what to bring.
Electricity
Solar panels help power El Marena. You'll have power for lights, fans and charging your phone, but a small island isn't the city: bring a power bank so you're never caught with a flat phone on the beach or at Chera Dip.

WiFi and phone signal
El Marena has WiFi. Like anywhere on a remote island, it's fine for messages and maps but don't plan a day of video calls. Mobile signal varies across the island, so download offline maps and your ship ticket before you sail.
What to bring
- A charged power bank, and the cable for every device.
- A small torch: the south of the island is very dark at night.
- Your ship ticket and travel pass saved on your phone and printed.
- Cash: card machines can't be counted on.
A chance to unplug
Many guests tell us the best part was putting the phone down: hammocks, stars and the sound of the waves. Our full moon night article is a good place to start.
